I never saw the need for mouse pads – after all, my mouse worked perfectly on my table-top. Or so I thought. Turns out though, that mouse pads may be a good idea even though your mouse can track well without it, because otherwise, your desk surface will probably get worn out. Just look at my table surface below. You can see the area is showing signs of wear, which isn’t very significant, but spoils how my table looks.
One day though, I had the good fortune to try out the SteelSeries QcK Mouse Pad that my friend brought, and since then, I’ve bought my own, and never been happier.
Think about it. Have you ever faced these problems while using your mouse?
- Base of mouse frequently gets dirty
- Mouse cursor jumps occasionally
- Hard to perform precise clicks/motions (Not impossible, just hard)
- Worn out table surface
If you do, then you’d be glad to know that all those problems may be solved with using a good mousepad. I’m not talking about those cheap, plasticky mousepads that are given free, or that can be bought for a dollar at your computer store’s bargain bin. The problem with those mouse pads is that they never last, nor do they provide a good, smooth tracking surface.
I was looking for mousepads that were professional / gaming grade, but I didn’t want to spend that much. The average price of a gaming mouse pad is around $30, which is way over what I was willing to spend on a mouse pad. So when I found out that the SteelSeries QcK mouse pad cost barely $10, I was sold!
The SteelSeries QcK Mouse Pad is a professional mousepad, made of cloth on a rubber non-slip base, and costs from around $10-$14, depending on where you get it from. This is a really affordable gaming-level mouse pad.
The SteelSeries QcK Mouse Pad offers a smooth use of your mouse that makes it a joy to use. It also can be folded and unfolded for transport and storage, which is a great benefit for people on the go. I regularly move around from place to place, and the QcK is fantastic for this because I can throw it into my bag without any worry.
As the SteelSeries QcK Mouse Pad is both black and made of cloth, it does show and retain a small bit of hair and dirt. No problems with that though, as it’s easily cleaned. Usually I just give my QcK mouse pad a quick wipe with a damp cloth and it’s good to go again.
The mouse pad comes in a few sizes: mini, regular, and large. The dimensions for the SteelSeries QcK Mini are 9.8×8.3 inches (250mmx210mm) which really is the regular size of the mouse pads that you see at bookstores or being given away as freebies. This is a good size as it allows the mouse pad to fit even small table sizes. The large size is incredibly large though, so I skipped that and got the regular sized one instead.
The SteelSeries regular sized mouse pad is slightly bigger than the mini, but it’s not that huge though. Amazon doesn’t offer free shipping with the mini sized one – only the regular sized one gets free shipping. Simple calculations showed that the cost of the mini mouse pad + its shipping cost made getting the regular sized one a no-brainer. So get the SteelSeries QcK Mouse Pad from Amazon.com (free shipping)!
