Ever Wondered What “EZ” Stands For In Elevators?

Elevator Displays EZ On Screen

While on the elevator, I noticed the floor display screen sometimes showing “EZ” instead of the floor number. That got me curious about what “EZ” meant, so I went sniffing around and discovered that “EZ” stood for “Express Zone”.

Apparently, express elevators sometime move so quickly that it isn’t feasible to show the floor numbers just flashing past, so they display EZ instead.

Ha. Learnt something new.

  1. EZ means Express Zone.

The author was incorrect in stating that, “express elevators sometime move so quickly that it isn’t feasible to show the floor numbers just flashing past, so they display EZ instead.”

Think of the Express Zone (EZ) as a train that is going through many stations (in this case, floors in a building) and is not answering/making any local stops.

The Express Zone is usually a large block of floors in which the elevator is running in express mode which gets you to your destination faster.

    Hope this helps.

  2. The EZ now I know what it is, the EZ is Express Zone which can go very fast on the elevator for popping your ears while riding, jut like not slowing down but like your time is like the express zone without stopping.

  3. You’re right, but some elevators show an “E” for “express”(not always found!). I thought, “maybe they replace the field without floor number into an “E”.” Thank you for your reply!
