Toastmasters Table Topic Ideas for Impromptu Speaking – Receive an Award

Everyone will receive an award at some point of time or another, and it would make good practice to try giving a speech for receiving that award. However, you can make it funny by creating a list of different accomplishments such as “Fastest donut eater”, “Best Powerpoint slide creator”, “Best children’s toy maker”, etc. Print these out on small pieces of paper, and have Toastmasters come up to “accept” these awards.

Toastmasters Table Topic Ideas for Impromptu Speaking - Fortune Cookie

For this idea, the Tabletopics master should prepare a jar of fortune cookies. He/she can either buy ready-made fortune cookies or even bake them personally! The idea is to have each Table Topics participant pick out a fortune cookie out of the jar, and give their table topic speech on the fortune that they selected. Suggest that they can either talk about the fortune, or say how the fortune applies to them.

One proven Table Topics idea is to have slips of paper with a saying or quote written on them. The table topics speaker has to explain what the saying or quote means to him/her. Instead of having just a handful of table topic speakers, why not involve your whole club? Try having a group story where everyone takes part in the story by contributing a line or a paragraph to the story. Start at one end of the room and progress to the other end.

You can choose to have this timed, or not. Either way, it’s a great opportunity for everyone to practice speaker, including those members who are always too shy to go for the conventional table topics sessions.
