JVC Xtreme Xplosives Earphones Review – The Best In-ear Earphones with Great Bass

April 27, 2012

I got myself a pair of JVC Xtreme Xplosives earphones to replace a pair of broken Sony’s, and I’m very pleased with my purchase. At $20 or so, these earphones handily beat competitors costing 5 times as much, and are the best in-ear earphones with great bass that I’ve found.

When I first opened up the packaging, the earphones looked much bulkier than what I was used to with my previous pair of Sony earphones. Once you wear them though, you hardly notice the bulk, and in fact, I found them very comfortable. I tried leaving them in my ears for a 12 hour flight, and they didn’t annoy my ears. I’m using the standard-sized earbuds that came on the earphones, but JVC has provided with small/medium/large sizes, so that you can swap in the size that you’re most comfortable with.

Prior to buying these, I had thought of getting earphones with the flat ribbon type of cord, since those prevent tangles very well. So I was a bit apprehensive at getting these JVC Xtreme Xplosives earphones, since it seems to use a typical cord, albeit in red. However, I didn’t have to worry, because the cord of these JVC Xtreme Xplosives earphones is great. From their official specifications, the cord is supposedly a “2.0mm-thick robust 1.2m OFC cable”. OFC in this case, would stand for oxygen-free copper, and would apparently be better for audio signal transmission. However, besides the sound, what was more important for me was that the cord feels tough and wouldn’t tangle easily. At 2.0mm, the cord is significantly thicker than typical earphones, so tangles won’t happen so easily, and besides, JVC has provided a cool-looking hard carrying case with these earphones. After several days of using the case to store the earphones, I haven’t had a case of tangles yet, so it’s something that I’m very happy with.

The only thing that might be a concern to people is the cord length. At a fixed length of 1.2m, it’s perfect for me to reach my MP3 player in my pocket or bag, but if you use it for running or need the cord to separate or be much shorter, then this might be something to take note of.

Sound-wise, I love the clarity and bass that these earphones have. These are definitely the best bass I’ve heard coming out of earphones. Some of the songs that I listen to are very bass-heavy, and these earphones bring that bass across really well. The bass doesn’t have the muddy feeling that you get with some other earphones, so it’s a very welcome feature.

I absolutely highly recommend these as they are the best in-ear earphones with great bass. I’ve no regrets buying these, and would buy another pair readily if something happens to this pair. Get your own JVC Xtreme Xplosives earphones here.
